Differences Between Live And Online Poker Games

There are a lot of seasoned players of poker that are still unsure on how to play poker online. Well, although the rules used in the online version of the game are still the same. There are just some elements in the online game that is quite different from the traditional game of poker. So before you sign up or register in any online poker sites, here are some things that you need to understand about the online version of the game.

In the online poker game, you only sit on the table with the other virtual players of the game. Although they are real persons, the online poker sites don’t give you the advantage of reading your opponent’s tells. So this means that you only have to depend on the playing styles and habits of your players in order for you to learn about their play.

Another thing that you can’t do in online poker aside from not being able to see the other player is that you can’t technically “cheat” on the game. Well, this means to say that, you alone can’t outwit or rig the game. Although there’s still other ways of winning the game through collusions, but these things can also be detected by online poker game developers and software engineers.

But if you’re the type of person that rely on peeking on the cards of the other players or you are used to the lack of focus of your friends while playing, well that may not be the case in the online poker tables. Because of the wide reach of the internet, you will certainly meet other players from different parts of the country and in the world who are really playing to win. So you really need to have some good poker skills in playing online poker games.

Last but certainly not the least, is that you get to have more options on how much you are willing to play for and which table you want to sit on. Unlike playing poker in the casinos, you won’t have the luxury to sit anywhere you want or choose which players you want to play with. Most of the time, there will be tables exclusive only for high roller players and it won’t be easily accessible to average players to join in. Well, in online poker sites, you can choose to sit in any tables you want and play even against the big players of the game if you want to. Alternatively, you can also set up some private rooms exclusive only for your friends and enjoy playing unlimited fun with them.

There are a lot of good online poker sites that you can sign up to. So just look around and read reviews about some of them, so that you can be sure that your money is safe and you can get the most out of your online poker games. The best way to get started is to choose a trustworthy site that offers a good poker bonus. This will give you some free chips to start playing with, so you can practice playing online with money that isn’t your own.

Back From A Break

18 Oct

Hey guys. Haven’t posted on the blog for a while, reason being I decided to have a bit of a break away from home, the internet and even playing poker. Sometimes it’s good just to down tools and get away from everything for a while to recharge the batteries. There was no specific reason for this, everything had been going fine. It’s just that now and again I like to drop everything and do something different.

So I decided to go walking up the Appalachian trail, which was great. Then flew over to San Diego and spent a week or so fishing and chilling out on the beach. It’s great to be able to do things like that at a drop of the hat, and I had a great time too.

Anyway I’m back home now and easing myself into a few cash games every couple of days, just to get warmed up again. Some steady gains made so far but nothing spectacular. I’ll update with more tips and my own progress over the next couple of weeks. Until then, take it easy.

Glad I had no money in my Full Tilt Poker account!

7 Jul

No doubt you’ll have heard last week that the Alderney Gaming commission decided to suspend Full Tilt Poker’s gaming license due to “several issues”. Hmm, not a good sign for the troubled online poker giant after their recent run-in with the federal government in the US.

Although Full Tilt themselves are being punished for whatever it is they’ve done to breach the terms of their license (and we don’t want to get into that right now) it’s also a disgrace that their users have also been affected, with the shutdown stopping many people mid-game. But the main thing is that they can’t withdraw their money as full tilt are banned from financial transactions without their license.

This effectively stops people from withdrawing their cash and using it to play someplace else. That’s pretty unfair in my opinion, and I’m just glad I didn’t have any money in my Full Tilt account at the time. For those who did, I hope it gets resolved soon.

Just been in a big sit n go tourney at Betfair poker, managed second place overall. Decent payout although hard work and nearly got knocked out earlier on. Overall though, pretty pleased with myself – now off to bed!

Simple poker tips for beginners – improve your game part 1

12 Jun

I thought I’d get started with some of the basics, so let’s look at some areas where beginners often go wrong, improving on these helps improve your game right off the bat.

A common area where a lot of people seem to go wrong, is feeling the need to participate on every hand dealt. A successful online poker player only plays AT MOST around 20-25% of dealt hands.

With that in mind it is important to play aggressively once you get a hand that you want to play. Remember, most of the time other players are ready to fold in search of a hand that they think favors them.  So, be ready to force the weak players out with your aggressive bets.

This is known as a tight-aggressive approach and it works! So play the best hands and sit out the crap ones, and you will see your chip stack rise over time.

Hello World (of online poker!)

8 Jun

Ok so I guess we’d better get started with an introduction. What’s this blog all about? Well, the clue is in the title. Poker is the game for me – it’s probably the one and only thing I’m good at, but I do make decent money from it, online and in real life tournaments.

So basically I’ve decided to start a blog to share my experiences, answer any questions that the wide web world might throw at me, and maybe pass on a few hints and tips along the way.

Lots of people get stressed out by poker, thinking they should win every hand or every sitting. Calm down guys, it just ain’t like that. Sometimes the cards go your way, sometimes they don’t. But the key to being a poker pro is that you win in the long run. Watch the pro tournaments. You see the same faces doing well year after year. Coincidence? I don’t think so. Luck? Get real! No, these guys keep winning money because they keep doing the right things!

So stick around and maybe improve your game a bit, but most of all have fun! Any questions just drop a comment into the bottom and I’ll do my best to answer.

Signing off for now
